We have joined our KLSD community and became a PTO. With a PTO everyone will automatically be a member of our organization.  The law firm, Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP, has generously donated their time to assist our executive board with the creation of a new 501(c)3 PTO.  On June 18, 2019 we voted as a PTA and it became official that we change and become a PTO.

The PTO is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit association that prides itself on being a powerful voice for all children, a relevant resource for families and communities, and a strong advocate for public education. Even Family at Meadow Pond is a member of the PTO. Come Join us, get involved and make a difference in the education, health and welfare of children.

The PTO president and executive officers should never do it all! PTO committees are a vital part of Meadow Pond’s PTO and a great way to share the work and develop new leadership. A definite purpose has been established for each committee as they plan and promote the activities of MP PTO. Each committee chairperson is responsible for the activities of their committee including planning, communication, receiving board approval (when necessary), and follow-through.

Many thanks to our hard-working MP PTO chair-people who get it all done! Without you, the PTO isn’t possible!

PRINCIPAL CASTELLANO RETIREMENT BENCH

To commemorate our much-loved Principal Carolann Castellano, who retired at the end of the 2021 school year, we dedicated a bench on the Meadow Pond campus in her name. The bench will be just one of many ways she is remembered at our school and in our hearts. We thank Mrs. Castellano for her service to our children, school, and the KLSD District. In the picture above Mrs. Castellano is surrounded by the current PTO board members' children who are in all grades.

BUDDY BENCH

We are proud to have a “Buddy Bench” on Meadow Pond’s playground!

A simple idea to eliminate loneliness and foster friendship.
Let's spread the message of inclusion and kindness.

A second grade boy in Pennsylvania, who noticed that some kids needed extra support or encouragement to feel included, came up with this simple solution.  The idea is that a child can sit on the bench if he/she were feeling lonely, unsure of who to play with or just feeling left out, and another child will approach them and invite them to play or talk.  Buddy Benches are now used on playgrounds nationwide to help students make connections with their peers. Through a partnership between our Meadow Pond PTO and the MPES Character Education Committee, Meadow Pond has our very own buddy bench!

MAX’S LITTLE FREE LIBRARY

What is a Little Free Library, you ask?

It is a small outdoor structure filled with books to borrow and share. The Little Free Library movement began in 2010 with the mission to promote literacy and the love of reading by providing free book exchanges worldwide and to build a sense of community across generations.

Can anyone take a book?

"Yes, anyone may contribute or take books. The more the merrier! If you take a book (or two) from a Library (Max's Little Library), you do not need to return that exact book. However, in order to keep the Little Library full of good choices for the whole neighborhood, the next time you swing by (Max's Little) Library bring a few books to share. Little Library book exchanges function on the honor system; everyone contributes to ensure there are always quality books inside. This way, we all win!" (from the Little Free Library website)

Little Library Best Practices

  • Books that are taken DO NOT have to be returned, but they may be.

  • Books that are donated will not be given back to their original owners.

  • Books that are put in Max's Little Free Library are NOT regular Meadow Pond Library books. They are gently used donated books.

  • Please do not visit Max's Little Free Library during school dismissal time as it is a safety issue.

  • Max's Little Free Library is only for children's books.

We are excited to have our little library at MPES! Please continue to help us in this special effort to spread the LOVE of reading throughout the Meadow Pond community.
